The challenge

MG Real Estate was developing a 23,000 m² logistics property in Venlo, but a request for a full grid connection had been rejected due to structural congestion, with no timeline for resolution. The building still needed to be fully operational. Two EPC contractors had each proposed an off-grid energy solution, but MG Real Estate needed an independent view on which would actually work.

Our approach

Bluepeak independently assessed both proposed configurations, evaluating whether each could reliably meet the building's energy needs within the grid constraint. We also developed an optimised third configuration tailored to the specific demand profile of the property.

What we delivered

A clear technical verdict: one solution was found to be insufficient and would have failed in operation. The other was confirmed as reliable and economically balanced. Bluepeak also provided recommendations to reduce operational risk going forward.

Energy as a business

Grid congestion doesn't have to stop a development. By independently stress-testing both contractor proposals early, Bluepeak helped MG Real Estate avoid a costly mistake and move forward with a solution that works, ahead of the September 2026 commissioning deadline.
